S.A.L.V.E. International

S.A.L.V.E. International is a UK and Ugandan partnership charity supporting children to stop living on the streets in Uganda. We do this through support, love, family reunification and education. We want to see that there is no street called home and that all children have the chance to fulfil their potential.

Projects

Project 1

Supporting children to leave the streets: We do this through building trusting relationships with children who are living and working on the streets of Jinja, Eastern Uganda. We do street walks to get to know children in their safe spaces. We also offer Drop in Centres and street sports to help children have a space place to come and receive food, medical care, lessons and counselling. This is with the aim helping the children to choose to leave the streets with our support so they can have a brighter (and safer) future.

Project 3

Supporting children to return to education: If a family is unable to afford to send their child to school this can be a reason why some children run away to the streets. They want the chance to learn. So we offer support for street connected children to return to appropriate school, while we also offer support to their family members to help them to increase their income so they will be able to support their children in school in the long term. This helps to ensure that the child never needs to run back to the streets again.

Project 2

Supporting children to return to a safe family home: We offer in depth counselling and a safe place to stay in one of our Halfway Homes or our Drug Rehabiliation centre to help children to be able to transition off the streets and back to a safe family home. We want to ensure that children are healthy and happy at home again and that the reasons why they ran away to the streets have been addressed. We also want to help them to heal from any trauma they might have experienced while on the streets.

What learning opportunities can the project provide for the school?

We have a range of lesson resources and assemblies to explore life on the streets for different ages, we have a monthly online debate led by the children in Uganda and we are very flexible in how we might be able to share learning together - just get in touch!

Keep up to date with S.A.L.V.E. International
