The Bouncing Ball Trust

We are a UK registered Charity delivering educational projects to communities in Kenya. We are currently working in partnership with the community of Bulati in Kajiado County, Kenya, on exciting projects to develop their primary school and to improve the lives of the community.

Projects

Olkeju Bulati Primary School Development Project.

We are currently fundraising to complete the development of two classrooms and an office at the school. This project will also include a properly constructed toilet block and kitchen. The primary school was partially constructed by a South Korean NGO (below they ran out of funds) before being handed over to the community.ring and training to improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools, so that children get access to the quality education that they deserve.

Olkeju Bulati Primary School Feeding Programme.

Olkeju Bulati Primary School Feeding Programme. Due to a lack of a feeding programme in place the school can only operate between 0800 and 1240 hours a day. This enables children to go home for their lunch. However the shortened school hours mean that the children miss around 15 hours of lessons a week. Enabling a feeding programme at the school would provide the children with warm porridge in the morning and a nourishing cooked lunch. The school will then be able to open for a full school day (0800 to 1530 hours). The monthly cost of the feeding programme has been calculated at £135 or 20,000 Kenyan Shillings a month; this includes the employment of a cook.

Naretisho Girls' Project.

According to UNESCO at least 1 in 10 girls in sub-Saharan Africa miss school during their period. We have started in innovative project in Bulati to provide eligible girls with menstrual education, mentoring and sanitary packs containing underwear and reusable sanitary pads. We would like to thank the charity freedom4girls UK for their partnership in providing an initial supply of sanitary bags and the menstrual educational materials. Two local teachers have agreed to be involved in the project and will hold two workshops/mentoring sessions each month. The initial group members selected the name Naretisho, which means "reaching out to help" as they wish to be empowered to help other girls in their community.

What learning opportunities can the project provide for the school?

The school will benefit from helping the Olkeju Bulati Primary School to establish and progress. Children of both countries will be able to exchange communications (facilitated through our Projects Co-ordinator in Kenya) about their lives, family, education etc.
